When doing the Shakeology cleanse or any other cleanse for that matter, Green Tea can be such an amazing addition to your program. And, continuing drinking Green Tea can be a valuable addition to your overall health regime. The benefits of Green Tea are many!

Green Tea and Weight Loss
Although green tea does not raise the metabolic rate enough to produce immediate weight loss, a green tea extract containing polyphenols and caffeine has been shown to induce thermogenesis and stimulate fat oxidation, boosting the metabolic rate 4% without increasing the heart rate.

Green Tea’s Health Benefits
Green Tea is the least processed type of tea and provides the most antioxidant polyphenols, notably a catechin called epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), which is believed to be responsible for most of the health benefits linked to Green Tea. Here are just a few medical conditions in which drinking green tea is reputed to be helpful:

  • cancer
  • rheumatoid arthritis
  • high cholesterol levels
  • cariovascular disease
  • infection
  • impaired immune function

Green Tea is an Anti-Oxidant
Flavonoids contained in Green Tea are a group of phyto-chemicals present in most plant products that are responsible for health effects such as anti-oxidative and anti-carcinogenic functions. Classified as plant pigments, flavonoids were discovered in 1938 when a Hungarian scientist named Albert Szent-Gyorgyi used the term “vitamin P” to describe them. The content of flavonoids in a cup of Green Tea is higher than that in the same volume of other food and drink items that are traditionally considered of health contributing nature, including fresh fruits, vegetable juices or wine.

Along with the health benefits listed above, other studies have suggested that Green Tea is helpful for diabetes, stress, dental cavities, protection against UV radiation, and viral infection. The bottom line, however, is that scientists just don’t know enough to make any clear recommendations.

Green Tea with a good balanced diet and some exercise will benefit your quality of life in so many ways.
